While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I discovered behind its walls was shocking and unacceptable on multiple levels .

From the moment I walked in , it was evident that cleanliness was not a priority at this establishment . The floors were sticky , and a foul smell of uncleaned spills and neglected washrooms permeated the entire venue . Smelling a mixture of excrement , putrefaction and illness . The serving zone , which should be the primary feature of any pub, was overflowing with soiled cups and debris that looked like it had accumulated over weeks. The lavatory was in even a more revolting state — clogged , with a shattered handle and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human excrement .
It wasn’t just a one-off bad night either. Going through other patrons’ reviews and talking to people around , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at this so-called establishment is a recurring complaint. Many patrons have reported observing cockroaches darting across the serving surface and signs of rats in the storage spaces . During my time there, I noticed how tense several female patrons seemed around Cornwell. As I investigated further , I was horrified to find reports against him involving inappropriate advances, with multiple women reporting interactions of sending unsolicited explicit content . Described as uncomfortably pushy and boundary-crossing , Peter Cornwell’s behavior has created an hostile atmosphere for women who patronize Masterson’s.
